About the Department:
The Department of Tourism and Travel Management, Lady Keane College, Shillong started in 2017 with an aim of imparting tourism and hospitality education and training to prepare students for management positions and entrepreneurship in the different sectors of the industry. The course oversees all important aspects of the industry and educates and enriches students with the required skill sets and expertise relating to:
- Hospitality and Tour Operations
- Event Management
- Starting small businesses in Tourism
- Entrepreneurship skills
- Foreign Languages
- Grooming through Personality Development
About the Programme:
The tourism course offered by the College is the Bachelor of Business Administration- Tourism and Travel Management BBA-TTM, a 4 year-Professional Degree Programme under the Choice Based Credit System (CBCS) and spread across 8 semesters.
The Department also focuses on imbibing the students with socio-cultural and environmental teachings pertaining to tourism, travel and hospitality so as to make them principled, socially responsible and creative leaders in the industry. The 4 years professional programme is also designed to provide maximum practical exposure through workshops, surveys, hands on training, local and national field trips and industrial training of four months. The programme also highlights the different career opportunities in the industry for the students to join various sectors like Adventure Groups, Travel Agencies, Hotels, Airlines, Tour Operators and so on.
Facilities:
The department is equipped with classrooms, library resources and a well furnished hospitality lab where students were given practical on hospitality operations like Front Office, Food and Beverages and Housekeeping Operations.
Admission:
The Department of Tourism and travel Management is inviting applications from both male and female students into the Bachelor of Business Administration-Tourism and Travel management BBA-TTM Degree programme. Admission is based on merit on the basis of marks obtained in the qualifying examination.
Candidates who have passed the class XII examination in the 10+2 scheme or its equivalent in any discipline from any recognized board securing a minimum of 50% marks in aggregate (45% for SC/St) are eligible for admission.
