Course Profile
Career Oriented Certificate Course in Khasi Traditional Music was initiated and introduced in the year 2011 by the College in collaboration with the Lady Keane College Alumni Association. The course is offered for both morning and day section students. Besides the students, teachers of various departments within the college had also enrolled themselves into the course, which acquaint them with the basic practical aspect of Khasi Traditional Music. In the First Batch (2011), Second Batch (2012) and Third Batch (2013), the enrolment of the students was 31, 40 and 25 respectively. In the year 2013 the College introduced the Undergraduate Diploma Course, 15 students who had completed Certificate Course in 2012 have enrolled themselves for the said course. Similarly, the Course is offered for both morning and day sections students.
Objective
Certificate course will introduce the students to the basic understanding of Khasi Traditional Music and it will train them to develop their vocational skills.
Diploma course will upgrade the study of Khasi Traditional Music at the Undergraduate Level after the completion of Certificate Course. It will train them to develop professional skills in handing Folk/Traditional Musical instruments. The course is a preparation for the Post Graduate in Khasi Traditional Music at a later stage. It is also a job oriented course. The course is also designed to enable the students to develop skill in making traditional musical instruments. In more ways than one, Khasi Traditional Music helps in preservation and conservation of the environment around us.
