One Day Inter-Disciplinary Workshop On “Career Opportunities For Students” on 16th May,2024.

The Department of History, Lady Keane College, Shillong organised a one-day workshop on Inter-Disciplinary Workshop on "Career Opportunities for Students" on 16th May,2024 in the College Seminar Hall. The workshop was focused on providing ideas to the outgoing students on various career options after their graduation.

The workshop started at 10:00am with the inaugural speech delivered by Dr.A.M Shangpliang HOD of the Department of History and Vice Principal of Lady Keane College by welcoming the resource persons and students to the one-day workshop. Thereafter, Dr.D.K.B Mukhim, Prinicpal Lady Keane College, Shillong addressed the students by sharing his views on this event. Students from the Department of History, Economics and Tourism and Travel Management participated in the workshop.

Four erudite persons were invited as resource persons for the workshop. The first session commenced with a lecture by Mr. M.K. Majumdar CEO, Sacred Heart Career Academy, Shillong. He delivered his speech on "Exploring Post-Graduate Courses after BA-History, Economics and Tourism." He provided a detailed information on the various courses that students can apply for after their graduation.

The second session was followed by a speech from the next resource person, Mr. Larsing L.D. Sawian, Managing Director, Centre Point Group Enterprise who gave a talk on the various opportunities that are available in the Hospitality and Tourism sector.

After the post Lunch break, the third session was taken by the resource person Mr. Albert Malngiang, General Manager, DCIS (District Commerce and Industries Sector) East Khasi Hils District. He highlighted on the various schemes initiated by the government for the youths who are interested in starting a business on their own. He stated that the District Commerce and Industries Sector also assists in providing trainings for school dropouts in courses like embroidery, knitting, carpentry, leather and shoe making. Further he also highlighted that the Tourism Department has collaborated with the District Commerce and Industries Sector to upgrade homestay projects under the Meghalaya Tourism Homestay Scheme. Smti. L. Khongrymmai Manager of the District Commerce and Industries Sector gave a presentation on the basic understanding of the term Entrepreneurship and the entrepreneurial process involved. Additionally, she highlighted on the various implementing agencies like PMEGP (Prime Minister Employment Generation Scheme) which is involved in assisting/or in setting up projects.

The last session was presented by Mr. Evanteilang Myrboh, Chief Manager, Meghalaya Rural Bank, Shillong Branch who emphasized on the career opportunities available in the banking sector and its benefits. The workshop ended with a vote of thanks given by Dr. M. Jyrwa, Associate Professor, Department of History, Lady Keane College, Shillong whereby she expressed a sincere gratitude to all the speakers of the workshop for sharing rich insight on the various opportunities available to the students after their graduation followed by distribution of certificate of participation to the participants attended.
