A Visit To Nehu Central Library on 8th May,2024

On 8th May, 2024, the 6th Semester History Honours students of Lady Keane College, Shillong along with their teacher Dr. I.H.Nongbri went on a visitation trip to Nehu Central Library Shillong. Upon the arrival, the Assistant Librarian (Acquisition) Dr. Manoj Rana greeted and welcomed the students. He took the students and the teacher to the conference room hall of the Central Library and acquainted the students on how to access the Nehu Central Library by giving a detailed talk on the use of OPAC (Online Public Access Catalog) which is an electronic database and can be searched by title, author, subject or keyword on various topics from the Nehu Central Library website. Further, he also familiarised the students about Shodhganga which is a digital depository of theses and dissertations in which students can access free of cost for writing their projects on various topics. In addition, he gave an insight on how to use the DOAJ (Directory of Open Access Journals) site for open access to free journals for students for writing their projects/assignments. He also highlighted on the use of EGyanKosh- a National Digital Repository which contain digital learning resources developed by the Open and Distance Learning Institutions in the country. In the end, the Library Assistant took the students a tour of the Nehu Central Library and showed them the different books available in different sections like the reference section, the social science Section, course book section, local collection section as well as the North-East Section. The students were able to read some of the books available in the North-East Section and hence they gathered a lot more information on the different topics on North-East India which is related to their syllabus. Upon completion of the tour, the Library Assistant also took the participants to the Digital Section where books were digitized. Thus, the visitation to the Nehu Central Library was successfully one and the students benefitted from the trip.
